Sandman: Who’s Who in the Cast of the Netflix Series

About to debut on Netflix, Sandman has everything to become one of the biggest hits on the platform. The series is based on the work of Neil Gaiman – one of the most influential comics of all time. The production also stands out for its impressive all-star cast, which includes stars from Game of Thrones, Cruella, Narcos and more.

“After years of imprisonment, Morpheus, the King of Dreams, embarks on a journey between worlds to recover what was stolen from him and restore his power,” reads the official synopsis for Sandman on Netflix.

Dream, the protagonist of Sandman, is one of the Endless Seven – immortal beings who dominate some of the most important aspects of human existence. In addition to Dream, the group is formed by Fate, Death, Destruction, Desire, Despair and Delirium.

Tom Sturridge – Dream

Tom Sturridge leads the cast of The Sandman as Dream, one of the Endless. Also known as Morpheus and Sandman, the protagonist is the ruler of the Dream Realm. After spending 105 years in prison, he wants to rebuild his kingdom and regain all that was lost.

British actor Tom Sturridge is best known for performances in films such as Effie Gray and Velvet Buzzsaw. Furthermore, Sturridge plays Lord Byron in the Gothic novel Mary Shelley. On TV, the actor is in The Holow Crown and Irma Vep.

Kirby Howell-Baptiste – Death

Death, Dream’s older sister, is played by Kirby Howell-Baptiste. Even feared by most humans, Death is a gentle and kind entity, offering words of comfort to anyone approaching the fatal hour. It already existed at the beginning of the Universe, and it will continue to exist even after its end.

You probably know Kirby Howell-Baptiste from her performance as journalist Anita Darling in the movie Cruella. The actress also plays Simone in the sitcom The Good Place. Other projects by the Brit include the series Why Do Women Kill? and Infinity Train.

Mason Alexander Park – Desire

Desire, one of the youngest members of the Endless, is brought to life by the performance of Mason Alexander Park. In The Sandman, Desire cultivates a great rivalry with Dream. The entity views the brother as “arrogant”, and spends centuries plotting against him – with the help of twin sister Despair.

Mason Alexander Park has few projects in his filmography. He currently stands out for playing Gren in the live-action adaptation of the Cowboy Bebop anime, aired by Netflix. You can also check out Park’s performances in series like The Legend of Vox Machina and Acting for a Cause.

Donna Preston – Despair

Donna Preston completes the Sandman Endless as Despair, the twin sister of Desire. The character is an embodiment of all human feelings of anxiety, hopelessness, sadness, and grief. She is one of the most complex characters in the Netflix series.

British actress Donna Preston is famous for small roles in films such as Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Holmes & Watson and The Exploding Duo. In addition, she is in popular British TV productions, such as the soap opera Coronation Street.

Gwendoline Christie – Lucifer Morningstar

In the Sandman plot, Gwendoline Christie gives a show as Lucifer Morningstar, the ruler of Hell. One of the wisest and most powerful angels in Heaven, Lucifer rebels against God and falls to Earth, thus becoming the leader of sinners.

Known for her imposing stature, Gwendoline Christie won fans around the world when she portrayed the warrior Brienne of Tarth in the series Game of Thrones. The actress also plays the sinister Captain Phasma in the new Star Wars movies.

Charles Dance – Sir. Roderick Burgess

sir Roderick Burgess is a charlatan occultist who creates a bogus ritual to capture Death and gain immortality. However, he ends up trapping Dream in his trap. Over the years, the character also uses the prisoner’s magic to increase his wealth and influence.

With a prolific career in theater, film and TV, Charles Dance has been around since the 1970s. You probably know the actor as Tywin Lannister on Game of Thrones. Dance also plays Lord Mountbatten in The Crown series, and is in films like Mank and Dracula: The Untold Story.

Jenna Coleman – Johanna Constantine

Johanna Constantine shares a great connection with exorcist and antihero John Constantine – the star of the Hellblazer comics, published by DC. In Sandman, the character has two versions. One of them exists in the 18th century, and the other, in the present day.

Paranormal detective Johanna Constantine is played by Jenna Coleman. The actress became famous as Clara Oswald in the series Doctor Who. In addition, Coleman conquered audiences and critics by playing Marie-Andrée Leclerc in Paradise and the Serpent and young Queen Victoria in Victoria.

Boyd Holbrook – Corinthian

Corinthian is one of the biggest antagonists of season 1 of Sandman. The character is described as “a nightmare that escapes the Realm of Dreams”. On Earth, he becomes a prolific serial killer who gouges out victims’ eyes. The villain is also “as charming as he is dangerous.”

Boyd Holbrook, who plays Corinthian, is best known for playing DEA agent Steve Murphy in the Netflix series Narcos. The actor also plays the cyborg villain Donald Pierce in the DC movie Logan.

Vivienne Acheampong – Lucienne

Rounding out the main cast of Sandman is Vivienne Acheampong. The actress plays Lucienne, the librarian of the Kingdom of Dreams. One of Dream’s most loyal allies, Lucienne does everything to keep the Kingdom running – even in her boss’s absence.

Born in Ghana, Vivienne Acheampong has few credits in her filmography. In addition to Sandman, the actress is in series such as The One, Famalam and Doctors. In cinema, she is in the reboot of The Witches Convention, released in 2020.
