Sandman: Mark Hamill, aka Luke Skywalker, appears in the trailer and you didn’t notice

Sandman is one of the most awaited series on Netflix and is coming soon to the streaming platform. One detail that many may not have noticed in the trailer released during San Diego Comic-Con 2022 is that Mark Hamill, Luke Skywalker from Star Wars, appeared.

The trailer brings a first look at Merv Pumpkinhead, one of the beings that reside in the Dreaming realm of Morpheus.

Continues after advertising

In the Netflix series, he is played by Hamill, who in addition to playing Luke in Star Wars, has also voiced the Joker for years.

Neil Gaiman himself said that Hamill was perfectly cast in the role of Merv.

“For over 30 years, my part in the Sandman adaptations was just trying to stop bad things from happening,” says Gaiman.

“And luckily, I’ve always been successful at that. We’ve reached 2020 and Sandman was the biggest property in DC’s comics that hadn’t yet been adapted – it was widely considered one of the crown jewels.”

More about Merv from Sandman

Merv is a tired dream, as the Comics Guide. As the name makes clear, he has a pumpkin head, but that can change depending on who dreams.

The character is based on Jack Pumpkinhead, a character created by L. Frank Baum, the same author of The Wizard of Oz.

Mervyn’s first appearance was in The Sandman #5. He appears driving a bus in order to help Dream in his search.

Merv appears to be responsible for the construction and demolition of the Dreaming, though he often complains about his work.

Sandman arrives in the catalog of Netflix on August 5th.
