Sweden tends to smash Denmark when it comes to pop music. Thursday night on Tinderbox, however, there was not much Swedish gold to come after.

24-year-old Zara Larsson is a world star.

She has a long list of hits with many, many, many, many millions of plays on Spotify, yet her concert on Tinderbox ” Red Stage ‘at mid-meal time became a semi-boring dance show.

First, I do not understand why she had not mixed her aces any better.

Instead of distributing hits like ‘Lush Life’, ‘Aint My Fault’ and not least ‘Uncover’ throughout the concert, most of the big tracks were saved at the end.

This meant that the first three quarters were marred by a talking audience and a slightly too monotonous stage show, where one synchronous dance replaced the other.

Yes, Zara Larsson sings insanely well, and her voice stood razor sharp out of the speakers.

She is also good at playing on her charm, and among other things created a highlight when she suddenly put on a Danish student hat followed by ‘congratulations’.

But from there it was a long way back, and it was very telling a cover of the old ABBA hit ‘Lay All Your Love On Me’, which before the final hit parade got the most attention in the audience.

Zara Larsson sounds a bit like Rihanna when she sings, but she lacks her American colleague’s edge and variation in expression (Rihanna has otherwise retired a bit at the moment, so Zara Larsson has the stage to herself).

It was fun to watch Zara Larsson get howled out of it as the front rows went crazy in the classic White Stripes’ ‘Seven Nation Army’ lay-lay-shout, but it was unfortunately also one of rare moments where the slightly mechanical popfacade spoke.

Of course, the mood lifted eventually, and overall it was a ‘nice enough’ late afternoon in the sun.

But that is just not enough. It was boring and quickly forgotten again.
