Rejection of James Bond: secret favorite does not want to know anything about Daniel Craig’s legacy

There are a few clear candidates in the hot race to succeed James Bond. But one of them has now denied the rumours.

With around 775 million US dollars in worldwide box office Daniel Craigs Farewell performance as Her Majesty’s agent in “James Bond 007 – No Time to Die” made the tills ring properly, especially in view of the Corona situation at the time of publication, but still fell short of expectations. Production studio MGM reportedly lost around $100 million. Craig’s last appearance as James Bond was, at least cinematically, a culmination of his 007 era, which began in 2006 with “James Bond 007 – Casino Royale”.

Currently, the producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are eagerly looking for his successor. He must be male, and British; those are the only requirements. Practically, however, he should also be under 40 years old and, if possible, not have any other long-term commitments. Because that’s the only way a real Bond star can be formed from an actor over the years.

It is not yet known when the successor will be presented to the public. The only thing that is certain is that it should be ready this year. Meanwhile, the betting shops are running really hot, there are some candidates who are traded as possible successors. There are the shooting stars, for example Regé-Jean Page and Sam Heughan, then established stars like Tom Hardy, Idris Elba and Henry Cavillbut also actors who hardly anyone has on their radar like Jamie Bell.

The latter has now commented on this in an interview with SiriusXM. And he has – of course – denied that he could ever be considered:

“Let me save you and your listeners some money. It’s not going to happen. Because I can tell you how it all started. So I did a film with Annette Bening a few years ago called ‘Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool’. Probably only a few people have seen him. However, the producer of this film, Barbara Broccoli, is also the producer of the Bond films. So I think that just because of that connection, and because I’m English, it all started. I think that’s where it started. So save your money and put it on someone else.”

We already know who you could bet on instead: on the candidates in our video.

“James Bond 26”: Is Jamie Bell just fooling the fans with his statement?

Jamie Bell has not yet commented on the rumors that he may be a possible successor. But even Bond expert Dr. Ian Kinane of the International Journal of James Bond Studies called him the actor most likely to get the role. At 36, Bell would be the perfect age, and although he is an established and talented actor, he is not a big star.

However, it must be said that at 1.70 meters he is not necessarily the size that James Bond has in the novels (1.83 meters). On the other hand, Daniel Craig is the “smallest” Bond actor to date at 1.78 meters. And if Tom Cruise (1.70 meters) has proved one thing with his “Mission: Impossible” series, then that a top agent does not have to be tall.

It is also conceivable that Bell simply wants to distract attention from himself in order to increase the potential surprise, but also to be able to negotiate in peace. As well as Andrew Garfield, who has vehemently denied involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home for months. It went so far that it almost seemed like a parody. In the end he was there and later revealed that he enjoyed fooling the fans. Maybe, just maybe, it’s also just a Bell strategy.

It doesn’t matter whether Bell, Cavill or Elba wins the race: This quiz is all about the veteran Bond actors:
