Red Notice: An even more expensive film to produce than expected?

A few months before the release of Red Notice On Netflix, Dwayne Johnson teased the film as one of the platform’s most ambitious projects. And for good reason, the feature film worn by The Rock, Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds was also the most expensive to produce in the history of Netflix. Its production budget was estimated at $ 200 million, but The Hollywood Reporter reveals that this has been largely exceeded. Indeed, between the cost of the casting and the various COVID-19 security protocols, Red Notice cost even more than what was originally expected!

As director Rawson Marshall Thurber reveals to the Hollywood Reporter, the envelope of Red Notice a “well over $ 250 million”. A totally crazy production budget, especially when you know that many viewers considered the film “cheap and low-end”. Faced with these criticisms, the showrunner explained that they had to use more green funds than what was planned because of the protocols related to Covid-19. The sets were therefore added in post-production through extremely expensive visual effects.

If the criticism of Red Notice is not extremely good – he gets a 30% rating on Rotten Tomatoes – the film with Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot, however, broke a record: that of the most streamed Netflix project on the day of its release. Perhaps to restore its image, the production should consider a crossover of Red Notice with the series Lupin !
