Real estate: the property tax will increase by more than 50% from 2023 in Paris

In 2022, property tax, paid by owners, had already made a record leap in France. And it’s not over, because for 2023, the city of Paris has planned an increase of more than 50%!

This year, the note was salty for the owners French. Throughout the country, the property tax experienced in 2022 a record riseup toand 3.4%, and even 15% in the Paris region, in the city of Montreuil. And it’s far from over, since the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgoannounced a new increase, particularly significant, more than 50%for the 750,000 owners of the capital.

The mayor wishes to pass the municipal rate property tax of 13.5% to 20.5%, an increase of 53%, despite the current high inflation. A very high increase, while the property tax in Paris was so far the lowest of the 50 largest cities in the country. However, the measure would not apply to everyone, people encountering economic difficulties would be exempt. Owners who have hired energy renovation works would also not be affected.

But this increase is widely controversial. Indeed, offered to Council of Paristhis measure particularly displeased the opposition, up to the National Assembly, which describes the management of Anne Hidalgo as “calamitous“. The latter explains it by the impact of inflation on city spending“, as well as “lthe disappearance of the housing tax for main residences“.
