Captain against the Pays de Cassel on Monday evening, Kylian Mbappé will be required to wear the captain’s armband more and more often at PSG.
In the absence of Marquinhos, but also of Presnel Kimpembe or Marco Verratti, it was Kylian Mbappé who wore the captain’s armband of Paris Saint-Germain, Monday evening against Pays de Cassel in the Coupe de France. A circumstantial event or a strong signal from Christophe Galtier? A priori, the 2018 world champion will be more regularly brought to wear the captain’s armband of PSG in the weeks to come. “I have decided that he will be the second captain since the start of the season, he deserves to have this armband when Marquinhos is not there, because he has decided to stay at the club” launched Christophe Galtier in remarks relayed by Le Parisien after the overwhelming victory of Paris SG against Pays de Cassel in the Coupe de France on Monday evening (0-7).
Kimpembe was not informed of his downgrading
Kylian Mbappé is therefore officially the vice-captain of PSG behind Marquinhos, which automatically downgrades Presnel Kimpembe in the hierarchy. But this decision risks creating great discomfort in the French capital since on his Instagram account, Presnel Kimpembe indicated that he had not been informed of this choice by Christophe Galtier and the PSG staff. “In the past few hours, I have been able to hear and read a lot about myself. I therefore wish to make things clear in order to avoid continuing to spread false information about me. I was not made aware of this decision, this is completely untrue… That said, I will always respect the decisions of the club” wrote Presnel Kimpembe, who is still the vice-captain of PSG according to him. However, Christophe Galtier has indeed decided to entrust the status of second captain of Paris Saint-Germain to Kylian Mbappé. Potential subject of tension in Paris between the two French internationals? It will be up to Christophe Galtier’s staff to quickly defuse the bomb a few days before a totally delirious month of February.
