Planned bomb attack in major Swiss city foiled by German police

German police probably prevented a bomb attack in a major Swiss city. A special intervention unit arrested two Swiss men aged 24 and 26 who were strongly suspected of wanting to buy explosives in Stuttgart for this purpose.

According to the elements of the investigation, the duo intended to use the explosive “for a planned crime in a large Swiss city”, the police and the public prosecutor’s office in Baden-Württemberg said on Thursday, according to the German press agency DPA. There is no evidence, however, to suggest an act motivated by political reasons, they specify.

The two young men had been under arrest since Tuesday. Authorities had been investigating them since the beginning of June. They spotted their tracks on the “darknet”, where the investigators came across a person wishing to buy explosives, in particular.
