Perez supports Bergwijn: “He is not paid to speak to the press”

Kenneth Perez thinks the criticism of Steven Bergwijn is ‘too easy’. The attacker of Ajax and the Dutch national team joined a press conference earlier this week, but did not say much. He indicated several times that he would ‘join’ teammate Davy Klaassen.

After that press conference, Bergwijn received criticism from several angles. Some Dutch reporters indicated that there was pure contempt for journalism and the Dutch viewer. Perez thinks the criticism is a bit exaggerated and therefore has a different view on it.

‘Then I don’t think you can fall over Bergwijn like that’

“I read everywhere that it is a shame, but a footballer is not a talker. A footballer is a footballer,” Perez says WK Talk. He is not paid to speak to the press. Maybe Bergwijn is very nervous, shy or shy. If he can’t do this very well, I don’t think you can fall over him like that. That’s not okay.’

The Danish analyst indicates that he prefers Bergwijn to ‘play football’. ‘Instead of giving whole monologues. I also notice that I have more sympathy for players who give nice interviews, but in principle that should not count. That’s not right.’

Bergwijn will play with the Dutch national team against Ecuador later on Friday. The attacker of Ajax is expected in the base. Where he formed an offensive couple against Senegal with Vincent Janssen, this will reportedly now be with PSV player Cody Gakpo. Davy Klaassen is reportedly allowed to start at ‘ten’, while Jurriën Timber is also expected in the starting eleven of the Orange.
