Pablo Trapero He is a filmmaker with extensive experience in Latin productions, especially in Argentina where he has a vast experience. spoilers was lucky enough to have a one-on-one conversation with the filmmaker about his involvement in echo 3an American series that will premiere on November 23 on the streaming platform AppleTV+.

echo 3 follows the story of Amber, a woman who is kidnapped on the border between Colombia and Venezuela then her family decides to go rescue her with the notion that the United States and the CIA will do nothing about it. Her brother Bambi and her husband Prince are members of the Special Forces ready to step in and rescue this woman living a shocking story in the process.

+Our conversation with Pablo Trapero about Echo 3

.1. We asked Pablo Trapero what the difference is when working in Argentina and in the United States as he did with Echo 3 and he answered us:

“Echo 3 is a series that, as you can see, was very ambitious from the beginning and for me it was an amazing challenge to be able to frame the scenes in images and I felt very close to a way of working similar to my usual way. It is another type of production and proposal, we are several directors, there was a lot of challenge and learning. The story tells the intimacy of a family and that is universal, it is very similar to the life of each one of us, the difference is that as it progresses this becomes an adventure out of control and ends in a political thriller of these dimensions”.

.two. We wanted to know what was the filmmaker’s biggest challenge in the filming of this series that is on a par with the great Hollywood movies:

“This is something that is quite common in large productions, the size is in accordance with the needs of the story, but that does not always respond to more immediate situations, such as taking the whole team up the mountain. It is one thing if you have a small team and another a huge group of people. In front of the camera is the actor and everything that is left behind is anecdotal, the challenge is how to leave all that apparatus off the screen to give you what the story needs with that diversity. Echo 3 goes through a lot of visual proposals and all those changes, trips, transfers or being in the jungle, Bogotá and Atlanta, all that equipment must be at the service of the narrative and I feel that we successfully overcome it. Echo 3 continues to be a portrait that begins in the intimacy of these characters and you can’t imagine that it will happen 5 episodes later.”

.3. We ask ourselves and Pablo about the dynamics between Bambi and Prince, fundamental protagonists of this fiction:

“Showrunner Mark Boal, for him there’s a certain point where the Echo 3 is like a western with two characters going it alone against the world with a system against them. That was a bit on a visual level where we put it in evidence in the jungle with the wild vegetation and the characteristics of that landscape with those two people where their privacy is lost. This was very early, they bring their bond from the past that is violently modified. The most violent thing they face is a hostile place due to its geography, they find themselves in complicated situations such as crossing a river. There are the difficulties of managing like the CIA without sending them resources and situations like surviving in extreme places.”

.4. Did the Argentine director feel comfortable with the cast? This was his response:

“I started working on the project a long time before when Mark invited me. I am a director and producer. I am in the decisions like the locations and the cast. I was very happy to confirm this cast is excellent in the scenes. They are all people with different experiences: Luke comes from the musical, Michiel comes from Game of Thrones, each one had his own way but we all had to make the same story. It was a very nice learning process, you had to work on the American accent, things that happen before saying action and cut, in that silent decision-making where you choose the style of narration that you are going to have ”.
