Since its debut in 2014, Outlander has reinvigorated public interest in historical romances. With some of the hottest scenes on TV, the series does a great job of evading the clichés of the genre. In a recent interview, star Sam Heughan discussed filming the sex scenes and revealed that filming is “quite uncomfortable”.
“In this epic tale, a warrior and a nurse share an overwhelming passion, but 200 years separate them,” states the official synopsis for Outlander.
The historic production has Caitriona Balfe (Belfast) and Sam Heughan (Bloodshot) in the lead roles. Outlander has 6 seasons, and has already been renewed for a seventh year.
But after all: why did Sam Heughan classify Outlander’s sex scenes as “uncomfortable”? See what the actor revealed about his experience below.
Outlander star didn’t like shooting sex scenes?
In a chat with an American website, Scottish actor Sam Heughan talked about the famous sex scenes in Outlander.
A statement by the actor, in which he claims that the erotic sequences are “uncomfortable” caught the attention of many people.
“In my opinion, they are always uncomfortable. It’s not something very natural,” said the star.
Heughan also discussed the series’ violent scenes. For the actor, one of the most traumatic sequences shows Jamie Fraser as a victim of sexual abuse.
“For my character, the rape at the end of Season 1 was very painful,” revealed Jamie’s interpreter.
The Outlander star, in addition, revealed the difference between the recordings of the first seasons and the current filming.
“Looking back, I didn’t feel much support. We were making a new series, all of this in a very different setting. The public expected a lot from us. They wanted to see everything. Today, things have changed. I think ‘less is more’”, explained the star.
In the 6th season of Outlander, the cast of the series had the help of the coordinator of intimacy Vanessa Coffey.
“She was fantastic. It really helped us explore that relationship and give the audience glimpses of intimate moments,” commented Heughan.
In other words, Outlander fans can look forward to hot and dynamic moments in the new episodes.
It is worth remembering that, in addition to being renewed for a 7th season, Outlander will have a spin-off series.
Announced by the Starz platform in February 2022, the new project will be a prologue, set long before the plot of Outlander. So far, details about the series remain shrouded in mystery.
Outlander already airs the sixth season. In Brazil, the series is shown by Star+ and by Netflix.
