Outlander fans have hired a private investigator to keep an eye on stars

In a recent interview, Caitriona Balfe, the star of Outlander, revealed problematic attitudes of fans of the series. Sam Heughan, Jamie’s interpreter, had already reported the exaggeration of part of the fanbase, which was again confirmed by Claire’s actress. According to her, fans even hired a private investigator to watch over her, in addition to other invasive acts.

On the internet, Outlander’s fanbase is already known as one of the most dedicated. It is the sheer number of viewers that allows the series to be renewed for so many seasons, and to continue its story without fear of cancellation.

However, the attitudes of certain fans completely tarnish the reputation of admirers of the series – and become obsessive about the production’s cast.

The Insider website revealed everything Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan have talked about about the obsession of Outlander fans; see below.

The controversy between Outlander fans and the series’ stars

In a chat with Variety magazine, Caitriona Balfe revealed that a small – but noisy – part of Outlander fans became convinced that the actress was in a relationship with Sam Heughan, the interpreter of Jamie Fraser, in real life.

Balfe also claimed to have been more concerned about the action of these obsessive fans after the birth of their first child.

“When you have a child, you become very protective. I don’t want these crazy people – because that’s what they are – talking about him,” said the actress.

In real life, Caitriona Balfe is married to music manager Anthony McGill. The couple’s first child was born in August 2021.

In a bizarre account, the Irish actress says Outlander fans began to speculate that her son, in fact, was also Sam Heughan’s.

Rumors started when fans realized that a curtain that appears in a photo posted by Caitriona is similar to a recording by Heughan.

And the obsession didn’t stop there: fans also called the church where Caitriona Balfe’s wedding would take place to confirm that the ceremony was “real”.

“Some even hired private investigators to prove that Sam and I were dating,” said the actress.

At the end of the interview, Claire’s interpreter expressed her frustration at the attitudes on the part of Outlander fans.

“It’s sad because you end up meeting wonderful people who are fans of the show, and who are great supporters of our projects. But then you have this small part, which only stains the whole set”, explained Balfe.

Outlander launches its sixth season in the United States on March 6, 2022. In Brazil, the series is shown by Star+ and Netflix.
