At the Oscars 2023 forget the famous red carpet of the ceremony; the lack of him is a lack that hasn’t happened for over 60 years.
Apparently the Oscars 2023for the first time in over 60 years, there will be no red carpet leading to the Dolby Theater. This key element of the Academy will be replaced in favor of a chromatic choice that has never been proposed before. The story can change.
Got it right, the legendary red carpet, first introduced in 1961 at the Academy Awards ceremony, will be replaced by a champagne-colored carpet. This interesting shift in the ceremony’s historic aesthetic is one of the many modern quirks of the 2023 Oscars.
“I think the choice of a champagne colored carpet instead of the classic red shows how confident we are that no blood will be spilled”host Jimmy Kimmel said (via IW), perhaps alluding to what happened last year between Will Smith and Chris Rock.
The color change for the 2023 Oscars was opted by creative consultants Lisa Love (longtime collaborator of Vogue), and Raúl Àvila (creative director of the Met Gala in New York). It seems that the underlying idea was to evoke the champagne that will flow at the event. “People always have a way of finding something wrong”said Love, adding “This is just a lightness and hopefully people like it. It doesn’t mean it will always be champagne colored.”
