Along the route of the popular Butterfly Walk in Kattenbos, the outdated elements of the former viewing walk are being removed. “It concerns matters that were already regularly the target of vandalism,” says mayor Bob Nijs (cd&v).

There was unrest on social media about alleged vandalism along the Butterfly Walk in Kattenbos. The wall with colored see-through glass turned out to be broken off and lies in ruins near the walking path. “It is not about vandalism, but we are clearing artificial landscape elements that were erected as part of a former viewing walk,” explains Mayor Bob Nijs.

After more than ten years, many of those constructions did not stand the test of time very well. “They had fallen prey to vandalism or were simply decrepit, and it would be too costly to restore them. In addition, the walking route was subsequently upgraded to a Butterfly Walk in collaboration with landscape artist Will Beckers.”
