Official: The LFP imposes two major sanctions on ASSE

After the violent incidents that occurred on the sidelines of the return barrage between ASSE and Auxerre last May, the LFP’s disciplinary committee decided to take action. Since this Thursday evening, the body which manages French professional football announced a series of heavy sanctions against the club from Saint-Etienne.

“In view of the incidents that occurred after the meeting AS Saint-Étienne – AJ Auxerre (Ligue 1 Uber Eats play-off), the LFP Disciplinary Committee decided on May 30, 2022 to put the file under investigation. After reading the investigation report, the Commission pronounces the following decisions against AS Saint-Étienne: Six penalty points, including three suspended, applicable to the 2022-2023 season. Six games behind closed doors at the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium, two of which are suspended”can we read in the press release published by the LFP.

Relegated to L2, ASSE will therefore leave with a huge handicap in its quest to rise in the Elite. Back in his club as coach, Laurent Batlles will therefore have a very difficult mission to accomplish, especially starting with -3 points and being deprived of the public throughout the start of the season…
