Paramount released a trailer for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves at San Diego Comic Con. And it promises action and humor.
There are said to be people who only know “Dungeons & Dragons” in connection with the Netflix hit series “Stranger Things” and therefore believe it is the equivalent of Dejarik from the “Star Wars” universe or Quidditch from “Harry Potter”. “. Dungeons & Dragons, released in 1974, is the mother of all role-playing games, if you will.
While that’s forgivable in some ways, it’s sacrilege for anyone to associate Dungeons & Dragons only with the ill-fated, if well-intentioned, 2000 film adaptation. Let’s not even talk about the two DTV sequels. Because the huge world of the pen & paper role-playing game is so much more than just bad computer effects and tried, but unintentionally funny dialogues. The trailer for the new film adaptation “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves”, released at San Diego Comic Con, proves how much more:
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves will be a fantasy firework full of humor
In “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” by the directing duo Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley (“Game Night”), the story revolves around an illustrious company of thieves consisting of a bard (Chris Pine), a paladin (Regé-Jean Page), a barbarian (Michelle Rodriguez), a magician (Justice Smith) and a druid (Sophia Lillis). But then they help the wrong person (Daisy Head) steal a valuable item. And in doing so, they unleash the “greatest evil the world has ever seen.” Now it’s up to them to straighten things out. Sounds like straight out of a campaign with friends, right?
Fans of the template will not only recognize certain mythical creatures like different colored dragons (of course!) mimics, deceptive beasts and owl bears, but also locations like Waterdeep, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter and Underdark. According to leading actor Chris Pine, the film should be a mix of “Game of Thrones” and “Knights of the Coconut”. Definitely an interesting comparison. Some “Prince’s Bride” is also said to have flowed into it. You don’t know this cult film? Then quickly catch up on Amazon. Personally, we also think that vibes from “Ocean’s Eleven” and “Lord of the Rings” can also be felt here. If you can think of more films, let us know.
In addition to the stars already mentioned, Hugh Grant, Jason Wong, Chloe Coleman as well as Sophia Eleni and Alexis Rodney are also involved. In this country, the wild genre mix is March 2, 2023 come to the cinemas.
