The series of ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi‘ will mark the live-action debut of the Inquisitors of the Empire, original characters from the animation ‘Star Wars Rebels’ and the game’Jedi: Fallen Order’.
In the saga, the Inquisitors are hunters of Jedi Knights who survived the massacre of Order 66, when clone troopers were programmed to exterminate them.
The Inquisitors were also Jedi refugees who surrendered to the Empire in exchange for their lives, but were taken in by the Dark Side and were recruited to hunt down their former allies.
During an interview for the Entertainment Weeklythe principal Deborah Chow commented on what audiences can expect from villains.
“Obviously, these characters came from ‘rebels‘ so it was really exciting to bring them into live-action for the first time. They’re Jedi hunters, so they’re under the command of Vader and Palpatine, and they’re basically users of the Dark Side of the Force. Here, they are just as dangerous as the Sith Lords, but the Inquisitors are not like the Sith, they are slaves and live with ropes around their necks, ready to be tied at the first sign of failure.”
She continued, detailing what it was like to work with the team at Lucasfilm:
“I would say that Dave Filoni [diretor criativo do estúdio] was very important to me, as well as [o produtor] Jon Favreau. They gave me the freedom to tell this important story that connects two trilogies of ‘Star Wars‘. Dave it was also a gem for me, because the series required a high degree of knowledge of the saga, and he is a veritable encyclopedia when it comes to canon. Whenever I had doubts, I went to him.”
Remembering that the series is set 10 years after the dramatic events of ‘Revenge of the Sith‘, when Kenobi secluded himself on Tatooine after his duel with Anakin to keep Luke and Leia hidden from his father and Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid).
Besides McGregor and Christensen, Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse return as Owen and Beru Lars, Luke Skywalker’s uncles.
The cast also has O’Shea Jackson Jr (‘Straight Outta Compton’), Rupert Friend (‘Homeland’), Sung Kang (‘Fast and furious’) Kumail Nanjiani (‘Eternal’), Indira Varma (‘Game of Thrones’), Simone Kessell (‘Reckoning’) and Benny Safdie (‘Uncut Gems’).
