“Not giving in to panic but given the random nature of the announced storms, we decided to place pallets of sandbags in certain places in the town”.
Here is, in essence, the announcement placed on the Facebook profile of the mayor of Wasseiges, Thomas Courtois. The town, affected during the floods in Hesbaye in early June, has actually decided to arm itself against the heavy rains forecast this weekend by the meteorological institutes.
250 sandbags were therefore prepared by municipal workers this week and four pallets were placed at strategic locations in the territory. Areas that had been impacted by the floods of the past two years.

Place de Wasseiges and rue des Moyeres, rue des Fontaines, rue de la Petite Rhée and rue de Ciplet.
“The storm in early June was not expected. I therefore understand that some are anxious when new storms are announced, ”continues the mayor.
The bags are therefore made available free of charge by the municipal authorities, who ask for nothing more than reasoned management on the part of local residents.
“We will be faster this way. Even if our teams remain on the alert in order to intervene in the event of a problem”, concludes the mayor.
