On Friday 25 March this year, Niels Hausgaard lost his wife of many years.

Gitte Hausgaard passed away after a long illness, aged 75. Survived by her husband, their daughter Louise and their grandson.

Now four months later, Niels Hausgaard lives alone on their farm in Hundelev in Vendsyssel, North Jutland, where together they ran a large stud farm.

And the first time as a widower has not been easy for the 77-year-old entertainer.

“It’s hard to put into words. It’s terrible,’ says Niels Hausgaard honestly to BT

Because he misses his Gitte Hausgaard.

And these are his first – public – words about the great sadness.

Because when Gitte Hausgaard passed away in March, the 77-year-old entertainer’s manager, Frank Panduro, confirmed the death.

And through the same manager, Niels Hausgaard asked for peace from the press.

But at the private funeral the following week, he spoke himself.

“It was very, very quiet. A quiet funeral, like we do where I live. I said a few words at the funeral to the guests afterwards,’ says Niels Hausgaard.

On Friday, he was at Smukfest to receive the Polka Verner grant, which is an honor – and a prize of 100,000 kroner – for his comic work.
