In an interview, Shang Chi actor Simu Liu spoke about his MCU role and expressed his desire for really crazy MCU team-ups.
Anyone who has seen “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” should have an inkling of why Marvel Studios has only now thought of the Asian superhero Shang-Chi with a film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). And that, although at the beginning he was still on a list of characters with Hulk, Iron-Man and Co. The film by director Destin Daniel Cretton starts out quite conventionally, but then quickly turns into a fantasy setting that has more in common with wuxia films like “Tiger and Dragon” and “House of Flying Daggers” than with the previous ones MCU films. But if you get involved, you will get an insight into the mythological depths that are still deeply hidden in the MCU.
For Simu Liu it is undoubtedly the greatest role in his career to date. The 32-year-old has only been seen in small supporting roles and in the sitcom “Kim’s Convenience”. For years he kept himself afloat with small jobs, such as stock photos. The role of Shang-Chi alias Shaun has changed his life – and landed him more lucrative jobs. He plays in the adventure film “Arthur the King” at the side of Mark Wahlberg.

Not unimportant for fans to know: “Shang Chi 2” has already been announced, which is no wonder considering the success that the film was able to celebrate as the origin story for a completely new superhero. He is particularly pleased about the return of director Cretton, like Simu Liu in conversation with Complex revealed:
“He’s such an important part of the movie’s success. And I want to mention that I often get disproportionate recognition for the film’s success. But it was really, really up to Destin [Daniel Cretton]. You know it’s the filmmaker and storyteller. It is exactly his thing. That he is returning now means that we can experience all that is great all over again. And then seeing what else he’s involved in at Disney and Marvel makes me incredibly happy for him. I think he deserves all the things in the world and all the success. He’s a truly special filmmaker. “
And what should be of interest in terms of content: How will Shang-Chi join the Avengers? Liu has already thought about this:
“How will Shaun fit in with the rest of the MCU? Who will you see What crazy team-ups [wird es geben]? What connections, easter eggs? I’m just as much in the dark as everyone else, so I hardly know anything. But I’m looking forward to throwing myself into this process. “
Shang-Chi side by side with Chris Hemsworth’s Thor or Tom Holland’s Spider-Man? Yes, please! Already in “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” there were some Easter eggs and, above all, cameo appearances that caused open mouths. New Marvel Star: This is how Simu Liu deals with online hatred
With success, as is so often the case, so do the envious and haters. Simu Liu had to experience that too. When he was just being announced as Shang-Chi, there was a poll in which some found him “too ugly for the MCU”. All the online hatred did not pass him by without a trace:
“I’ve had bad, bad days going through Twitter and feeling bad about the things people said about me. But then you go out into the real world and into life – and nobody would say something like that to your face. “
So he decided to concentrate on things that bring him joy and inner peace. And with the success that he can and will experience now, the few envious people can be the same.
