Fans can rejoice: In his latest adventure, Indiana Jones once again takes on the Nazis, including Mads Mikkelsen and Boyd Holbrook.
In his best films, the most daring archaeologist, Dr. Henry Walton Jones Jr., better known as Indiana Jones, always associated with his favorite opponents, the Nazis. He fought with them for the Ark of the Covenant in “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and for the Holy Grail in “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade”, where he received support from his father, Professor Dr. Henry Jones (Sean Connery) received. So it basically goes without saying that Harrison Ford again acted as a Nazi scare in his last appearance as Indy.
As trite as the use of Nazis may be in all of their clichéd Hollywood portrayal, Indy was always at his best when his self-deprecating manner met dead-serious Krauts. The team around director James Mangold (“Logan – The Wolverine”) also knows this and summarily brought her back for “Indiana Jones 5”. It was based partly on true events and partly on real people, as co-author Jez Butterworth (“Edge of Tomorrow”) reveals in an interview with Empire.

Set photos had already revealed that this time the Apollo 11 space mission will play a role and that the film will take place in 1969. In the 1960s, the United States had fought a race with the Soviet Union for space sovereignty, if you will. At first it looked like the USSR would win, but then US astronauts Neil Armstrong, Edwin Aldrin and Michael Collins achieved the impossible by landing on the moon on July 20, 1969. All of this would be without German aerospace engineer Wernher von Braun would not have been possible. The explosive: Von Braun was a member of the NSDAP and the SS:
“The fact is, the moon landing program was run by a bunch of ex-Nazis. How ‘ex’ they are is the question here. And that pisses off Indy…”

“Indiana Jones 5”: “Bond” and “Sandman” villains are Indy’s new opponents
And so it is finally clear which roles Mads Mikkelsen (“James Bond 007 – Casino Royale”) and Boyd Holbrook (“The Sandman”) will play. Even without the details author Butterworth gave away, fans would surely have guessed it once they saw Mikkelsen in the first photo:
N / A? Doesn’t Mikkelsen’s look remind you of Arnold Toht (Ronald Lacey) from Raiders of the Lost Ark? In “Indiana Jones 5” the Dane plays Vollmer, who was inspired by Werner von Braun. And apparently he’s discovering a way to change the past, according to the 56-year-old:
“He is a man who wants to correct some mistakes of the past. There is something that could make the world a much better place. He would like to get his hands on it. Indiana Jones wants to get her hands on it, too. And so we have a story.”
And one who helps him is called Klaber and is played by Boyd Holbrook, who most recently knew how to convince as the Corinthians in the Netflix hit series “Sandman”. Holbrook describes Klaber as pretty crazy lap dog by Vollmer. He looks like he’s about to demand a picture of Spider-Man at any moment. The only question that remains is what exactly Vollmer discovered in order to be able to change the past. So is time travel an issue after all? We will find out at the latest June 29, 2023when “Indiana Jones 5” starts in German cinemas.
