Resident Evil fans are blasting the new Netflix series, mainly because of the many differences from the games. Interestingly, the series creator revealed to be a fan of the Capcom franchise.
Showrunner Andrew Dabb is said to be a dedicated fan of the video game series. In an interview with Collider, Dabb revealed that his love for games stems from the position they hold in the horror genre and how they’ve managed to create what some might call a necessary branch within it.
“I’m a huge fan of Resident Evil. Do you know what I mean? And the games and the movies. Games defined, for me, the horror genre.”
“They really form what I think horror is and what really works, and you can see that in Supernatural at different points. And so the movies, I think, are a little underrated, because they were one of the first movies that really took multiple genres and kind of blended them together, whether it be science fiction, horror, action, and everything in between.”
More on Netflix’s Resident Evil
The plot of the series unfolds in two timelines: in the first, sisters Jade and Billie Wesker, both 14 years old, move to New Raccoon City. A corporate city they are forced to live in in their teens. But the longer they spend there, the more they begin to discover that the city is not what it seems and that their father may be hiding dark secrets. Secrets that can destroy the world.
In Resident Evil’s second timeline, which is set a decade in the future, there are less than 15 million people alive on Earth, and more than 6 billion monsters – people and animals infected with the T-virus. Jade, now 30, struggles to survive in this new world, as secrets from her past continue to haunt her.
Netflix also confirmed that Lance Reddick is the famous villain Albert Wesker. The character is one of the most classic of the Resident Evil game.
The cast also includes Ella Balinska, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph and Paola Nuñez. Netflix did not reveal the characters of the actresses.
The Resident Evil series is now available on Netflix.
