The neighborhood supermarkets will ask the Economic Inspectorate to investigate an action by Lidl. The discounter is launching a 1+2 free promotion on wine. “Very unhappy”, says Buurtsuper.be.

Anyone who buys a bottle of wine at Lidl will receive two bottles for free, the Lidl brochure teaches. “Such actions lead to a race to the bottom. While our sector just needs the margins to adapt supermarkets to the energy transition. Very unhappy at the worst imaginable moment,” says Luc Ardies, managing director of Buurtsuper.be, the mouthpiece of the independent supermarkets.

The organization intends to ask the Economic Inspectorate for an investigation. “As soon as we notice that there is a tie-in sale, we always request an investigation”. The self-employed organization already did this after advertising campaigns by Albert Heijn.
