In all, four residents were killed and two others were injured in the explosion, probably caused by an incorrect installation of a gas stove, in Turnhout. This Monday, the relatives of Patrick Verschuren sent a last goodbye to the 60-year-old man, who died with his partner Roza Baeten during the accident.
“For you, Patrick’s family, it has been a long and frightening time. Finally, the bad news arrived. Patrick was left in a disaster ”recounted the pastor during the funeral ceremony for Patrick Verschuren, reports Gazet Van Antwerpen.
Patrick Sas is the manager of the Do Nuts café, the café where Patrick and Roza usually went. “Half past four on a weekday: the cafe door opens and Roza storms in. Patrick is already on his way, ”he said. “Patrick would often finish his pint and say, ‘Give them all a drink from me!’ He was very generous, always in a good mood. (…) Patrick, you were a great guy, everyone’s best friend. Roos and you will be missed. When I look at your seat at the bar, I still see you. In my mind, it will always be like this. “
“Patrick had survived a knife attack before, but he didn’t stand a chance against this devastating gas explosion. Now we are trying to get on with our lives. You may be invisible, but you are still close to us, ”he concluded.
After the ceremony, his ashes were scattered in the municipal cemetery of Nazareth. Last week Roza “Roos” Baeten bade her farewell to Herentals.
