Motorist becomes unwell and crashes into front yard: driver does not survive blow

The driver of a car overturned his vehicle in the center of Beveren on Saturday. He died in the process. Everything indicates that the man became unwell behind the wheel.

The accident occurred in the Polderdreef, near the center of the municipality. Around 11 a.m. on Saturday morning, a car drove onto the roundabout on Halfdreef to turn into Polderdreef. Bystanders noticed how the driver apparently fully depressed the accelerator and the car swerved to the other side of the road. The vehicle then rammed several mailboxes, traffic signs, a lighting pole and a parked vehicle before finally coming to a stop on its side in the front garden of a house.

The emergency services were alerted and were on the scene very quickly. They were able to remove the driver, who was alone in his vehicle, from the car and tried to resuscitate him on the spot. However, the attempts proved fruitless. The driver, a 63-year-old man from the municipality, died at the scene. Everything indicates that he has become unwell behind the wheel.
