MCU Director Promises Guardians of the Galaxy 3 Will Be “Different Than Viewers Expect”

In an interview, James Gunn spoke about the status of Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and the Disney+ Christmas special.

Gunn is particularly excited about newcomer Chukwudi Iwuji, who also stars in his DC series Peacemaker. In an interview with Collider Gunn praises him beyond measure:

“Chukwudi, who plays Murn in ‘Peacemaker,’ is one of the main characters in the film and people freak out because the guy is so good. They literally freak out. i think i’m really happy. I gave Marvel a bunch of scenes before the Christmas break. Kevin [Feige] said… They’re all really, really excited. […] It’s going to be very different than what people expect. It’s a rocky road, but I’m very happy so far.”

Filming of the holiday special of Guardians of the Galaxy has not yet started

Gunn also revealed that filming of the Guardians of the Galaxy holiday special isn’t even underway, although the special is set to premiere on Disney+ in December 2022. According to Gunn, the approximately 40-minute short film is also not unimportant for “Guardians of the Galaxy 3”, which starts a few months later:

“The shooting is still going on. We should have shot in Los Angeles in one day and Omicron was too rampant so we couldn’t do it. We have to accommodate it somehow. I haven’t started yet. I look forward to it. It is fun. The holiday special is… I’m almost jealous of it even though I wrote it. Because people are freaking out about how much they love the script for the holiday special that I’m almost like, ‘Easy, easy! I have this film here that I’ve been working on for two years. You guys love the holiday special I wrote in a very short amount of time.’ But it’s really very funny and very good.”
