The two Red Bulls will be followed on Sunday in the second row by the Ferraris of Monegasque Charles Leclerc, 3rd at 292/1000ths and Spaniard Carlos Sainz, 4th at 446/1000ths of Verstappen.
Another Spaniard, Fernando Alonso, will start from the third row after setting the fifth fastest time, 628/1000 from pole position. The Aston Martins, which have been roaring since free practice, managed to place two cars in Q3, with Canadian Lance Stroll finishing with the eighth fastest time.
The Mercedes slipped into 6th and 7th position on the grid between the two Aston Martins, George Russell ahead of his teammate and fellow Briton Lewis Hamilton by 44 thousandths of a second. Esteban Ocon (Alpine) and Nico Hulkenberg (Haas) will start from the fifth row.
The qualifying session was interrupted in Q1 after pieces of Charles Leclerc’s car broke away from the Monegasque’s Ferrari.
The Bahrain Grand Prix will launch the 2023 season of the Formula 1 world championship. The start of the race will be given on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. (Belgian time) on the Sakhir circuit.
