Master Class is a piece by the British playwright David Pownall written in 1983. Its originality is to stage the composers Dmitri Shostakovich And Sergei Prokofievas well as the dictator Joseph Stalin.

I’adaptation of Master Class is signed Guy Zilberstein and Michel Vuillermoz, also a director and actor. The latter shares the poster with Stephan Wojtowicz (including the part Showmen is currently being performed at the La Flèche theatre), Sam Karman And Igor Menjisky.

Master Class tell how Stalin And Zhdanov (the great inquisitor of Soviet cultural life) are going to give a music lesson to the students Prokofiev And Shostakovichtwo of the greatest composers of the XXe century. Bad students than these two, since their works, according to the masters Stalin and Zhdanov, reveal musical tendencies that are anti-democratic, formalist, foreign to the Soviet people and their artistic tastes. Music that could make an entire population sick! Should we start writing music in the style that the Master commands or continue to do as we please and risk death? We are in January 1948, somewhere in the Kremlin. There is a piano, vodka of course, and peanuts…
