Rumor has it that the new Marvel villain from “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” has been revealed – and now we may have seen him on merchandise for the first time.
„Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness“ should live up to its title, as Elizabeth Olsen announced. The Scarlet Witch actress will switch to the cinema department of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) after “WandaVision” and promised us a gruesome horror atmosphere during the film. Allegedly, we could also know which opponent is responsible for this.

Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) gets it this time, according to a rumor Shuma-Gorath to do a giant interdimensional tentacle monster with a big eye in the center of its body. At least that’s what Illuminerdi reported in May 2021, after insider Daniel Richtman (via Murphy’s Multiverse) previously announced that Shuma-Gorath would soon play a role in the MCU.
As is so often the case, merchandise could have ensured that the new villain of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” has actually been revealed. Because on booktopia.com there is an apparently licensed comic-style puzzle for the upcoming MCU film.
On this the strange looking creature Shuma-Gorath can be recognized unmistakably. Apparently, if the jigsaw puzzle is really inspired by the movie, the monstrous look of the villain will be taken straight from the comics for the MCU. At the bottom right you can see three other figures next to Doctor Strange on the box. These are likely Wong (Benedict Wong), Scarlet Witch and America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), who will also make her MCU debut in the Marvel film. Although we may have seen Shuma-Gorath earlier in the franchise.
Monsters also like to let it crash against each other in the cinema, as our video proves:
Did Shuma-Gorath appear in “What If …?”
– Warning: This is followed by spoilers for season 1, episode 1 of “Marvel’s What If …?”! –[display-posts orderby="rand"]
That Shuma-Gorath will actually appear in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is of course still not certain, despite the puzzle and the message from Illuminerdi. After all, Daniel Richtman could only have hit the nail on the head, after all, he only announced that the figure would be seen in the MCU. And that could already have happened in episode 1 of “Marvel’s What If …?” The animation series plays through well-known events from the MCU, but changes them in crucial details. The first episode, for example, makes Peggy Carter a super soldier instead of Steve Rogers, so instead of Captain America there is Captain Carter in this reality. This messes up the rest of the process.
For example, Red Skull receives the tesseract much later to open a portal. When he does this, however, a huge tentacle monster comes towards him. We don’t see the eye of the creature, but a giant beast with tentacles that is practically conjured up with the space stone and in a series in which the multiverse plays such a big role, it can really only be Shuma-Gorath .
That is why Shuma-Gorath is a danger to the whole multiverse
Shuma-Gorath definitely presents himself as a threat to “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”. In the Marvel Comics he has a history with Doctor Strange and his teacher, the elder. But the tentacle monster also fits into the MCU, since the multiverse is playing an increasingly important role and Shuma-Gorath, in turn, is the ruler of hundreds of realities in the comics. He is also an extremely powerful opponent: He can change his form in the template, teleport himself, copy the magic of others and manipulate reality itself, which would make some horror interludes. Shuma-Gorath is said to have the power to destroy several galaxies with ease.
Definitely not an easy task for Doctor Strange, as long as Illuminerdi’s report and the puzzle are correct. Fortunately, he can count on the support of Scarlet Witch one way or another, who with her chaos magic could well keep up with the power of Shuma-Gorath. Especially since America Chavez’s MCU debut awaits us in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”, who in turn can travel through dimensions. According to Illuminerdi, Shuma-Gorath wants to catch that Chavez in order to steal her powers and thereby be able to rule over the entire universe.
A possible indication that this is actually true could be provided by a leak from August 2020. At that time, alleged statements from an application video for “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” made the rounds. Even before the official confirmation, they suggested an appearance by America Chavez, who probably spoke to Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch in the scene. It was also about an unspecified demon who is said to have bitten a part of a city. It was also said that this demon wanted to kidnap a person still unknown to us, who then explains the multiverse. This person could be America Chazev, so the leak fits in very well with the new information from Illuminerdi. Although that is of course not enough for a confirmation.
So far, the favorite for the role of villain in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” was the interdimensional demon Nightmare. Scott Derrickson, who directed Doctor Strange, even brought Nightmare up for discussion at the time. However, that was before the departure of the director, who was replaced in the sequel by Sam Raimi (“Spider-Man”). Who will really be the magician’s adversary? 4. May 2022 start in Germany.
