Marvel star solves mysteries of “Black Panther 2” ending: What does this mean for the MCU future?

“Black Panther 2” only hinted at who will rule Wakanda in the future. A star of the film has now confirmed the implications.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was able to convince Marvel fans despite the tragic loss of leading actor Chadwick Boseman and had the best November start in US cinemas. T’Challa was succeeded by his mother Ramonda (Angela Bassett), who, however, could only be Queen of Wakanda for a short time. Because in the middle part of the film she sacrificed herself for Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne).

At the end of Black Panther 2, T’Challa’s sister Shuri (Letitia Wright) was replaced by M’Baku (Winston Duke) in the ritual battle for the throne of Wakanda, with the film implying that M’Baku is the new king. Winston Duke has this opposite esquire now confirmed: “It’s kinda cool at the end of the movie though unveiled as King of Wakanda to become… That’s huge. So whatever that means, it’s going to be fun.”

Winston Duke sees Black Panther films as a collaborative project

He also adds that he’s not yet sure what his king will be like: “M’Baku is unabashed. Very proud. A little bit conservative. It’s kind of a shocking and for me very exciting moment. I can now wonder what kind of king he will be.” As M’Baku undergoes a transformation throughout the film and seeks a peaceful solution with Namor (Tenoch Huerta) to avoid a war between the peoples, it might M’Baku become a superior king.

When asked if he could see himself starring in the Black Panther movies in the future, he replied with an adamant no:

“I don’t like to think that way. I don’t agree in any way with that [das Franchise] somehow mine Both ‘Black Panther’ films are defined by their casts. And it has to be defined by the ensemble. If you lose your titular hero, it’s up to the group to continue the story. The strength of Marvel is that it’s not owned by a single actor or character.”
