While the actor struggled at times with lying to fans, Garfield also found something positive about it. In order to be able to deal with his feelings of guilt better, he saw the questionnaires more as a kind of game, as if he were participating in werewolf. In an interview with TheWrap did he say the following:
“It was like this huge werewolf game that I played with journalists and with people doing puzzles, and it was a lot of fun … There were moments when I thought, ‘God, I hate lying. ‘ I don’t like to lie and I’m not a good liar, but I’ve always seen it as a game and always imagined I was a fan of this character, which is not difficult. I’ve put myself in the position of, ‘Well what would I want to know? Would I want people to play with me? Do I want to be lied to? Do I want to discover it when I go to the cinemas? Do I want to guess, guess, guess? ‘”
For those who don’t know the game Andrew Garfield is talking about: Werewolf is a parlor game in which there are one or more werewolves who secretly kill villagers from night to night. After a murder, survivors must guess who the werewolf is. Accordingly, this can only disguise itself through lies. Anyone who has played the game can well imagine how Garfield must have felt when he had to lie to fans about his appearance in “Spider-Man: No Way Home”.
