Contrary to expectations, however, the reactions were mostly negative. With a rating of just 47 percent among the critics Rotten Tomatoes and 52 out of 100 possible points Metacritic cuts “Eternals” as the worst film of the MCU. Now Chloé Zhao spoke up and questions the opinion of the critics.

Because in a story on hers Instagram-Account the Chinese film director shared a post by Rotten Tomatoes, in which users were asked whether “Eternals” deserved to be at the bottom of the MCU film rankings. Zhao commented on the post in an extremely professional way:

“Does he do that …? Join the happy debate, or if you are not sure, have a look [den Film] with the director’s comment and numerous bonus material on Disney + from January 12th. “

The grossing results of “Eternals”

At the box office, “Eternals” also proved to be a failure. The Marvel blockbuster recorded the worst US theatrical release of an MCU film since “Ant-Man” in 2015. With global revenues of around 400 million US dollars and a budget of 200 million US dollars, Eternals remains below expectations Studios back. By Marvel standards, “Eternals” may be a flop, but apart from the superhero cosmos, there have already been much worse total box office failures, as you can see in the following video:

Of course, the circumstances of the global pandemic should not be disregarded in the absence of success, but “Spider-Man: No Way Home” proves with a current grossing of more than one billion US dollars that despite the increasing number of infections, exorbitant crowds roam the cinema to join one of your favorite Marvel heroes on his latest adventure. The Eternals, on the other hand, have yet to develop this type of fan base, which may not be that easy after a bumpy start like this. But maybe “Eternals 2” could lead the guard of heroes into a more hopeful future.
