Angry dogs – whose English title is Rabid Dogs – will have a american remake. The production of the remake of the thriller by Mario Bava it should start in 2022.
As reported by Collider, Samuel Franco and Evan Kilgore will deal with the remake of Mario Bava’s thriller. The couple confirmed the news to Deadline and said they bought the rights to Angry Dogs, which marks a shift in the Italian director’s career. Taking charge of the project as executive producer will be Alfredo Leone, producer of the 1974 film.
Angry Dogs is an adaptation of Michael Carroll’s Man and Boy story and follows the story of three violent criminals who take hostages while escaping the police after a failed robbery. Samuel Franco said: “Bava was a master of certain atmospheres and knew how to give life to unforgettable moments. Angry Dogs manages to be a film full of suspense and, at the same time, it is full of moments like that!”.
While the project was being worked on, producer Roberto Loyola filed for bankruptcy. The consequences did not take long to have repercussions on Mario Bava’s film, which was shelved for some time. About two decades later, Angry Dogs was finally screened at the MIFED Film Market in Milan. Released on DVD in 1998, the film gained critical acclaim.
Franco and Kilgore have imagined a sort of trilogy set in the present but desexualized to make it more suitable for the contemporary era. Production of the Angry Dogs remake is expected to begin in 2022 in order to allow the film to be released in 2023.
