Malheur with “Bares for Rares”: Expert gives way too high an estimate

Usually, the expertise lies in “Bares for Rares” in the context of the later sales price. Sometimes, however, the bids skyrocket unexpectedly or, as in this case, get stuck in the basement. A salesman from Essen suffered more.

As won, so melted away: Thomas Schneller was only able to look forward to the prospect of up to 2,400 euros at “Bares für Rares” for a short time, then the reality in the dealer room struck coldly. But one after the other. The seller entered the junk show with two series graphics by the artist Josef Albers and caused undreamt-of enthusiasm among the experts.

Colmar Schulte-Golz was deeply impressed by the Bauhaus-style art and described its maker as one of the most important artists in his field. Although the condition of the pictures is no longer the best, he quadrupled the seller’s desired price and of course put people in a good mood. However, it shouldn’t last long.

Traders cannot follow expertise

In the dealer room, Comar Schulte-Golz’s pricing encountered a lack of understanding. Ultimately, too much work was needed to restore the works of art, so that the 2,400 euros that had been called up were a long way off. Julian Schmitz-Avila started accordingly with a slim 200 euros, which of course was a bitter damper. Although his colleague Fabian Kahl showed interest, the maximum limit of 600 euros was quickly reached.

Thomas Schneller nevertheless struck, after all, that was exactly the amount he wanted before the expertise. After the exuberant words of Colmar Schulte-Golz, his joy should have suffered a little. Things went much better in these cases, as the video shows you.
