Major Marvel character set to make MCU debut 12 years ago – but will be dropped from all films

Most recently, the character in question was about to make its MCU debut on Thor: Love and Thunder – and was then cut out again.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has grown and thrived since it debuted with 2008’s Iron Man. Since then, a whopping 29 films and 8 series have been added over the course of the first four MCU phases and 14 years, if you exclude the non-Marvel Studios Marvel series; this includes those commissioned by Netflix such as “Daredevil”.

Especially with the launch of the MCU series on Disney+, countless new characters have been introduced into the cinematic universe, while it is becoming increasingly difficult for pure cinema audiences to follow the overall storyline if they are unwilling to take the series with them. But even with this almost insane flood of characters, a very specific character has not yet managed to celebrate its big appearance. Every time she was supposed to show up, she was apparently cut out at the last second. In fact, she has been waiting for her role for at least eleven years, most recently on “Thor: Love and Thunder”, as Graham Churchyard im Comic Book Phase Zero Podcast revealed:

“We’ve come a long way in designing Balder the Brave. And then we waited and waited and waited for the cast. I made it to a prototype, we were in the design phase, so to speak, putting materials and ideas together and waiting for an actor. Balder the Brave almost made it in ‘Thor’, ‘Thor 2: The Dark Kingdom’ and ‘Thor: Ragnarök’, if I may simplify it. Then it was: ‘Woo-hoo! He’ll get an appearance!’ Poor guy. I’ve seen sketches of Balder’s helmet in Marvel’s archive book going back to Kenneth Branagh’s ‘Thor’. So he’s been waiting for a long time; and I don’t think he’ll be getting a gig any time soon.”

‘Thor: Love and Thunder’, with which Chris Hemsworth’s Thunder God was the first of all superheroes to get a fourth solo appearance, was probably the greatest and now sadly missed opportunity to introduce Balder the Brave. A just published one Picture with a look behind the scenes even shows that scenes with him have at least been prepared. Because Balder the Brave is not only a brother of Thor and Loki, he should also be part of the Illuminati, the mysterious group that met an inglorious end at the hands of the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen ) finds.

The team around director Sam Raimi is said to have had a pretty big star on board for this cameo appearance: Daniel Craig. Although he recently denied the whole thing, the 54-year-old ex-Bond also had a mini-appearance as a member of the Imperial Stormtroopers in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”. On the other hand, if you can see everything in the next Marvel films and series, we’ll tell you in the Video.

Marvel Knowledge: Who is Balder the Brave?

Created in 1962 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Balder the Brave is the son of Odin and Frigga and thus the brother of Thor and Loki. Since it was said when he was born that his death would trigger Ragnarök, the fall of Asgard, his mother made him virtually invulnerable. Swift and agile, Balder earned his nickname “The Brave” from the countless battles he fought as an adult. Basically, he owes his white hair to Loki, through whose cunning he almost died and was thus imprisoned in Helheim for a certain time.
