Lorenzo Lucca sets himself new goals every month, he says in an interview Inside Ajax on Ziggo Sport. The Italian knows that he is mainly known for his height and head power, but he wants to be more than that.
“I am a player who is at least tall and strong, but I am not slow either,” says the tall striker. “A lot of people don’t know who I really am. Maybe they judge me only by my physical features. At the beginning of each year, I set myself a few goals for each month. And I’m trying to get it.’
As the first Italian football player employed by Ajax, it took some getting used to at first, he admits. “Football here is very different from Italy. The ball goes around faster here, both in training and in the game. I found that difficult in the beginning, I had a hard time, because I didn’t know the language. I’m learning it a bit now. I’m happy to be here.’
Lucca is a striker by profession. It is not entirely coincidental that his childhood idol is also a center attacker: Zlatan Ibrahimovic. ‘I watched him as a child. I always thought he was one of the best attackers in the world. I will have to work hard to reach his level. What he has achieved is otherworldly. I can certainly get better and do my best to become the best I can.’
Lucca in Amsterdam
All in all, Lucca feels at home in Amsterdam. He enjoys life in the city. ‘It’s quiet, the city is very clean. The roads are well organized, but there is a lot of traffic and a lot of bicycles. I haven’t cycled yet. I usually go by car and I don’t go out much anyway, just to go out for dinner.’
