- Gujarat’s first time MLA Bhupendra Patel got the post of Chief Minister
- Bhupendra Patel became the leader of the legislature party, will take oath on Monday afternoon
- Patel won the election for the first time in 2017 by a record 1.17 lakh votes.
- Before this, Bhupendra was the leader of the municipal level, the image of a soft spoken leader
After the resignation of Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Saturday in Gujarat, the round of speculation stopped by Sunday evening. BJP unanimously approved the name of BJP MLA Bhupendra Patel and he was elected the leader of the legislature party. The political journey of Bhupendra Patel, who is going to take oath as the Chief Minister of Gujarat on Monday, has been very interesting. First-time MLA Bhupendra Patel has traveled from the municipality level leader to the top post in the politics of the state.
Bhupendra, who was not even discussed, got the command
It was only after Rupani’s sudden resignation that some leaders of the Patidar community were being named as his successor, but suddenly the name of Bhupendra Patel appeared, which was not even discussed anywhere. Similarly, in Uttarakhand, BJP had earlier surprised everyone by giving the command of the state to Tirath Singh Rawat. After the resignation of Tirath, where there were speculations about giving the command of the state to veteran MLAs, the party made Pushkar Singh Dhami the Chief Minister, destroying all the speculations.
BJP is building a new leadership like Uttarakhand
According to political analysts, the party wants to create a new leadership in the states and Pushkar Singh Dhami as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand is also an example of this. Patel had contested for the first time in 2017 from the Ghatlodiya assembly seat in the state and won by over 1.17 lakh votes, a record in that election.
Image of a soft spoken leader, Bhupendra is known as ‘Dada’
Bhupendra’s image is that of a soft spoken leader. Patel, fondly called ‘Dada’ among his supporters, is considered close to Anandiben Patel, former Gujarat chief minister and Uttar Pradesh governor. The assembly he represents is part of the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat, from where Union Home Minister Amit Shah is an MP. Patel was the chairman of the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) from 2015 to 2017. Prior to this, he was the chairman of the standing committee of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, the largest urban body of Gujarat from 2010 to 2015.
Grounded leaders meet people with a smile on their face
People who know Patel closely describe him as a down-to-earth leader who meets people with a smile on his face. Patel, who holds a diploma in civil engineering, was active in local politics before contesting the assembly elections and was a member of the Ahmedabad district’s Memnagar municipality and became its chairman twice. He is also the Trustee of Sardardham Vishwa Patidar Kendra, an organization dedicated to the socio-economic development of the Patidar community. Patel was seen planting saplings in his constituency on Sunday morning ahead of a meeting of BJP MLAs for the selection of the leader at Kamalam, the BJP headquarters in Gandhinagar.
