With “Jurassic World 3” the latest dinosaur film is just starting in the cinemas. Two stars took a critical look back at a decision from the first film.
Running since June 8th “Jurassic World: A New Era” in the cinemas. The dinosaur blockbuster not only brings the story of the characters from the “Jurassic World” films to a conclusion, but also brings heroes from “Jurassic Park” back to the screen. May once more Laura Dern (Ellie Sattler) Sam Neil (Alan Grant) and Jeff Goldblum (Ian Malcolm) marvel at cute and scary dinosaurs.
During the shoot, Dern and Neill were able to reflect on their characters’ love affair and realized that, from today’s perspective, their age difference of 20 years would no longer be appropriate. They told The Sunday Times (via IndieWire) told. Sam Neill hasn’t noticed the big age difference between him and his co-star for a long time:
“I’m 20 years older than Laura [Dern]! Once upon a time, that age difference was completely appropriate for a leading man and a leading lady. I never realized that until I read a magazine and there was an article called ‘Old Geezers and Girls’. People like Harrison Ford and Sean Connery playing with much younger people. And there I was on the list. I thought, ‘Come on. That cant be true.'”

Laura Dern had found relationships to be normal
Laura Dern also admits that the relationship between the characters felt totally normal to her and that she only later became aware of the serious age difference:
“Well, it happened felt completely appropriate to fall in love with Sam Neill. And it’s only now that we’ve returned to the Patriachart in a moment of cultural awareness that I was like, ‘Wow! We’re not the same age?’”
In Jurassic World 3, Dern is 55 and Neill is 74. So the age difference isn’t as noticeable as it was in Jurassic Park. There is now a growing trend towards casting men and women of a similar age. For example, in the current film Top Gun: Maverick, Tom Cruise (Pete “Maverick” Mitchell) is 59 years old and Jennifer Connelly (Penny Benjamin) is 51.
