Twelve of the approximately 300 employees of the head office of fashion chain JBC in Houthalen-Helchteren are being made redundant. This is caused by rising energy prices and declining sales.

Bart Claes, CEO of JBC, had already announced last summer that our economy is facing difficult times. His prediction is now also coming true within his own company. At the head office of the fashion chain, 12 of the approximately 300 employees will have to look for a new job. “It has been one of the most difficult decisions in JBC’s existence,” said spokeswoman Katrien Vangrunderbeek. “But the malaise in the retail sector and the high energy prices are playing tricks on us. Unfortunately, we couldn’t avoid it.”

In 2020, the company already recorded a loss of turnover of 50 million euros due to the closures due to corona. And the turnover of 2021 was also lower than that of pre-corona year 2019. JBC is one of the best-known clothing chains in Belgium. (cn)
