Jason James Richter: This is what the boy from “Free Willy” looks like today

In 1993, Jason James Richter, then 13 years old, answered the call of freedom and befriended the orca Willy. Two more sequels followed the cinema hit “Free Willy – Ruf der Freiheit” before the former child star withdrew from the public eye. We’ll tell you what he looks like today.

Born in Oregon in 1980, Jason James Richter grew up in Hawaii and moved to Los Angeles with his parents at the age of ten. There he tried his hand at being a child actor, which he succeeded in doing right away. His first film is called “Free Willy – Call of Freedom” and was known to be a box office hit. He slipped into the role of whale friend Jesse twice more until 1997, but he did not achieve any further success on the screen away from the sea, so that he finally said goodbye to acting altogether. In the meantime he dared his comeback in smaller indie films, optically he has understandably changed significantly since then.

Comeback in front of the camera: That’s what Jason James Richter is doing today

Jason James Richter was already active as a musician during his teenage years. He played guitar in the “Band Blue Root” and in many an interview indicated that he felt very comfortable being part of an ensemble and not being the center of attention alone. In 2004 he left the band and played bass in a band called “Fermata” until 2011.

Even if he was mainly active as a musician for a long time and still is, Jason James Richter has now decided to try it again as an actor. In 2021, it was enough for a supporting role in the thriller “The Little Things” alongside Oscar winners Denzel Washington and Jared Leto. We wish the likeable man all the best and look forward to seeing him again as an adult in front of the camera.
