It doesn’t get more epic: Don’t miss the action highlight of the year on Netflix

While “Thor: Love and Thunder” is currently showing in the cinema, Netflix is showing the true blockbuster highlight of the year.

The Indian film industry is one of the largest in the world and always impresses with gigantic productions and impressive computer effects. Nevertheless, Indian cinema leads a niche existence in the West and is often reduced to Bollywood films, ie the Hindi-language productions known for their long running times, opulent musical sequences and melodramatic scenes. There are numerous regional film industries in India that work in different languages and there is also an indie scene. With the action fireworks “RRR” India has also been conquering the west for a few months. at Netflix you can experience the phenomenon yourself.

RRR, which stands for Rise, Roar, Revolt, is set in British-occupied India in the 1920s. When little girl Malli (Twinkle Sharma) is forcibly kidnapped from her village by the vicious Governor Scott (Ray Stevenson) and his wife Catherine (Alison Doody), warrior Komaram Bheem (NT Rama Rao Jr.) goes in search of her the child. At the same time, the policeman Alluri Sitarama Raju (Ram Charan), who works for the British, is supposed to prevent the liberation. When the two meet, they quickly become best friends, unaware that they have opposite goals. The trailer gives you a first impression of the film:

That’s why “RRR” is a masterpiece

However, this short summary of the plot doesn’t do justice to the epochal size of the film at all. Because in addition to the emotional story about friendship, the film also offers a romantic comedy, grandiose action scenes that you have certainly never seen before and perhaps the best musical sequences in Indian cinema.

The mixture of genres, the exaggerated staging of the action and the mystification of the main characters can initially seem a little strange to western viewers, but don’t let that put you off. Because “RRR” unfolds a pull that you can’t resist over a running time of just over three hours. The film’s ending, in particular, is about as satisfying as a finale can get, both staging and storytelling. Not only is every action and musical scene choreographed down to the last detail, visually “RRR” is also incredibly impressive and surpasses many Hollywood productions.

Netflix is available at an affordable price with a Sky Q subscription

Director SS Rajamouli has already conquered Indian cinema with his previous two films, Baahubali: The Beginning (stream the film for free on Amazon Prime Video here) and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. The latter is the highest-grossing Indian film of all time. But “RRR”, the most expensive Indian film to date, has also been on a high since it started on March 25, 2022 and has a good chance of overtaking “Baahubali 2”. The film has already grossed over $99 million worldwide (via BoxOfficeMojo).

Unfortunately, “RRR” is only available on Netflix in Hindi, although the original language is actually Telugu. Nevertheless, this version of the masterpiece is worth watching, especially since the two stars dubbed the film themselves in Hindi and a few other languages. To truly experience the film’s magic, “RRR” is best enjoyed with other people.
