Insider tip for the cinema: why you shouldn’t miss the best film of the year [Kritik]

Multiverses, special abilities and a main character who must save the world. Hard to believe, but my film of the year is not from Marvel.

Anyone who is upset about the monotony of the film landscape should sit up and take notice now: Apart from the fact that there are always fantastic film diamonds among the prequels, sequels and spin-offs, the cinema program also regularly surprises film fans with original stories that have never been seen before definitely not to be missed. The new prank from A24 “Everything Everywhere All At Once” is one of those very special stories that cinema was made for that has not yet been noticed by the general public. According to Focus: movie only 12,700 viewers have seen the film so far, taking it to number 11 in the cinema charts. The trailer gives you a first impression of the crazy sci-fi adventure:

Original, emotional, action-packed and completely wacky

Actually, when you think of the multiverse, you immediately think of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), especially when the start of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is imminent. However, “Everything Everywhere All At Once” has nothing to do with Stephen Strange and Co., instead the film explores the multiverse of Evelyn Wang (Michelle Yeoh, “Tiger & Dragon”), who actually only wants to file her tax return and then return to return to her boring life in her own laundromat. When her husband Waymond (Ke Huy Quan, “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom”) reveals to her that he is her husband from another multiverse and needs her help or humanity will perish, she is transported to a whole new world kidnapped, who is nevertheless very familiar to her.

The story of the “one chosen person who must save the world from evil” is a well-known and well-used plot motif in Hollywood, yet everything feels new in Everything Everywhere All At Once. The completely insane mix of genres arouses the interest of the viewers with exciting action and a brilliant Michelle Yeoh, who hopefully bag all the awards under the Hollywood sky for her performance. But what makes the film special is the courage to take the craziest paths and still show emotion and heart.

Everything Everywhere All At Once exceeded all my expectations

As soon as I see a trailer and the “A24” logo flashes I usually get hopeful, “Everything Everywhere All At Once” was no different, if not maybe even more so than usual. The trailer was so good that I wanted to run straight to the cinema, which is why I went to one of the first screenings with my colleague Andi, who was just as enthusiastic as I was.

To say that the film exceeded my expectations does not do justice to the work of directors and screenwriters Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. It’s been a long time since I laughed so hard in the cinema that I cried. At the same time, I turned away in shock and disgust and fought back tears – at the end also because it was emotional. “Everything Everywhere All At Once” is not only a gripping sci-fi action film, it is also somewhere a hidden love message to life and people with their flaws, but above all it is also a story about the love between parents and theirs children. I don’t want to reveal where exactly these messages are revealed in the film at this point, instead you should storm the cinemas yourself to see “Everything Everywhere All At Once”. Not only will you be part of nearly two hours of fantastic entertainment, you may also shape the cinematic landscape by making the box office ring for an original film. So you can only win.
