Calling all lovers of Chinese masterpieces! the Cernuschi museum in Paris is currently presenting a sublime exhibition, extended until March 5, 2023 due to its success. titled ” Moving Ink, A History of Chinese Painting in the Twentieth Century », this exhibition offers us – as its name suggests – an incredible dive into the past to discover 20th century Chinese painting.

You may not know it, but the Cernuschi museum, overlooking Parc Monceau, has one of the most important European collections of modern and contemporary Chinese paintings. Until March 5, the Parisian museum is unveiling to the public an exhibition exclusively devoted to these masterpieces, and this for the first time! An installation that is all the more important as these ink and paper masterpieces cannot be permanently exposed to light.

Through 7 themes beautifully orchestrated and scripted, we discover particularly well-preserved works and the weight of ink painting. Throughout the century, it was at the center of theoretical debates, whether it concerned the definition of a national painting, the question of political commitment, realism or abstraction.

The visit begins with ancient writings and modern painting at the beginning of the 20th century before exploring the peoples of the West, red paint, revolutionary drawings and inks, abstraction and finally the ink of the 1980s and 1990s.

Proof of its wealth, the collection of Chinese paintings in the Cernuschi museum notably unveils works by several masters active in China, such as Qi Baishi, Fu Baoshi, Wu Guanzhong Where Li Jin. The exhibition “moving ink” is also an opportunity to admire works by some of the greatest figures of this artistic diaspora, such as Zhang Daqian, Zao Wou-ki, Walasse Ting Where Ma Desheng.
