The nerve center of the Bains district in Geneva, the Contemporary Art Building (BAC) brings together several renowned cultural institutions such as the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Mamco), the Center for Contemporary Art and the Center de la photographie . The BAC is part of the industrial site of SIP, the former Geneva Society of Physical Instruments, a complex whose different spaces communicate via an interior courtyard.
In addition to the departure of the offices of the Municipal Contemporary Art Fund to the new eco-district of La Jonction, which will allow Mamco to expand its exhibition space, the space Le Commun, dedicated since 2009 to the promotion of local creation and independent, moved to building J, which in the past housed a nightclub. The city of Geneva has decided to mark this move with an opening party that will honor the multidisciplinary nature of the arts promoted there.
Music and installations
The evening will begin with various performances and concerts from 7:30 p.m. to continue until 1:30 a.m. with a DJ set. Taking on the role of curator, visual artist Frédéric Post conceived this festive moment as an artistic wandering, composed of a succession of different rhythms. From the frenzy of the percussions of the female collective Obaya to the contemplative moments in front of the luminous installation of François Moncarey. A prolific personality in the field of digital arts, the latter will neglect very elaborate effects to favor a more delicate project, letting the light whisper through crystals.
Fina Fitta, a Nordic duo composed by Charlotte Nordin and Raphaël Ortis, will combine crystal bowls, vocals and electronic music for a meditative trance session. The visual artist Alexandre Joly will not present an installation but will come as a musician, to offer a dancing improvisation traversed by interstices noise. “I will bring an old synth from the 1970s, the Buchla Music Easel, explains the artist, whose work often includes a sound dimension. I will combine these powerful and very electric resonances, with effects, gongs and a jar of water equipped with a sensor.
