Exclusivity can be deadly! This horror delicacy with selected ingredients should make genre fans’ mouths water. We’ll tell you why.
Dinner is served! Lovers of excellent cinema fare can breathe a sigh of relief: After mixed franchise starts, which provided effective but unsurprising entertainment with “Black Adam” or “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”, starts today, November 17, 2022 with “The Menu” finally a real treat in the cinemas again. Director Mark Mylod (“The Perfect Ex”) sends Nicholas Hoult (TV series “The Great”) and Anya Taylor-Joy (“Last Night in Soho”) on an offbeat journey of indulgence that takes guests — literally – the last bite gets stuck in the throat. We’ve checked for you what you can expect from the macabre comedy.
There is cooking, feeding and murdering! We give you a first glimpse of what awaits you on the gourmet journey in the trailer for the film.
What is The Menu about?
It’s a dream come true for foodie Tyler (Hoult)! Together with his girlfriend Margot (Joy), he gets the unique opportunity to take part in an exclusive dinner by star chef Slowik (Ralph Fiennes). Even the venue is unusual, with a lonely island. But Tyler and the other participants appreciate the selected framework, which only seems to underline the specialness of the evening. When the first inconsistencies occur, Margot suspects that the head chef Slowik is following a very individual recipe with which the evening should become an unforgettable experience. The bloody surprises are not long in coming and spoil the evening for one or the other guest.
“The Menu”: First reviews promise a highlight
Even before the official theatrical release of the long-awaited horror fare, international critics found words of praise for the innovative story and the twisted plot. On the rating portal Rotten Tomatoes Mark Mylod’s new film can look forward to a review score of currently 89 percent. A result that even puts Marvel’s heroic epic “Wakanda Forever” in the back. There is talk of satirical comments with a high hit rate, black humor and original jabs, which are particularly effective in Ralph Fiennes’ portrayal of the obscure head chef. The theatrical release on November 17, 2022 will prove whether this advance praise will also taste good to the German cinema audience.
