He is known from films like ‘Lion’ and ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, but now Dev Patel can also add ‘rescuer’ to his CV.

The English actor stopped a fight in which a man was stabbed in the chest when he was in the South Australian city of Adelaide.

It writes CNN.

According to a press release from South Australia Police, the unrest started on Monday at 20.45 on Monday evening, when a 32-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman got up to fight.

The fight started in the open street, but continued into a gas station, where several witnesses tried to get a handle on the situation. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen before the woman stabbed the man in the chest with a knife.

It was after this that Dev Patel stepped in

“Dev Patel followed his instincts by trying to defuse the situation and get the fight stopped. The group (witnesses and Dev Patel, ed.) were fortunately successful in de-escalating the situation, and they stayed at the gas station until the police and later the ambulance arrived,” his representatives told CNN.

However, the actor himself does not believe that he acted as a rescuer.

“There are no heroes in this situation, and unfortunately it testifies to a larger, systematic problem with citizens at the bottom of society who are not treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.”

Dev Patel hopes the situation can inspire politicians and those in power to work to improve conditions for the people living at the bottom of Australian society.

The 34-year-old woman was subsequently arrested by the police and charged with serious violence.
