Hindi Diwas 2021: Hindi is one of the most spoken languages in the world. The population of Hindi speaking people is third after the Chinese language Mandarin and English. Hindi is the carrier of the culture of India, hence Hindi Diwas is celebrated in the country on 14 September. The main objective of celebrating Hindi Diwas is to preserve and maintain Hindi. Since the arrival of the British in India, the movement of English has increased, which is increasing continuously. Because of this Hindi is also being ignored. Hindi Divas is celebrated only to prevent this. Although World Hindi Day is celebrated internationally on 10 January, but in India, Hindi Day is celebrated on 14 September.
Mahatma Gandhi had said that Hindi is the language of the people and also recommended to make it the national language of the country. Although Hindi has not got the status of national language till date, but Hindi has definitely become our official language.
Started celebrating Hindi Divas in 1949
Hindi, written in Devanagari script, was accepted as the official language of India in the Constituent Assembly on September 14, 1949. After this, the government of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru decided to celebrate this day as Hindi Diwas. However, Hindi Divas was not celebrated in the years 1950, 1951 and 1952. Officially the first Hindi Day was celebrated on 14 September 1953.
Why is Hindi Divas celebrated?
After the arrival of the British in India, all government work was done in English. Even after the departure of the British, many works are done in English only. It is advised to work in Hindi instead of English in all offices on Hindi Day. On Hindi Diwas, it is tried to explain that unless you use Hindi fully, it is not possible to develop Hindi.
Many events are held on Hindi Diwas
Hindi Diwas is celebrated in many schools in Hindi Pakhwada, in which poetry, articles and other competitions are organized in Hindi language. There is some program related to Hindi language continuously for 15 days and at the end of September month, prizes are given to the students who perform well in all the competitions. Apart from this, people and institutions working for the development of Hindi are also honored with Rashtrabhasha Kirti Puraskar and Rashtrabhasha Gaurav Puraskar. Rashtrabhasha Gaurav Puraskar is given to the people and Rashtrabhasha Kirti Puraskar is given to any department or committee.
