the Pantheon is one of national landmarks the most symbolic of France. Located in the heart of Latin Quarter, this imposing building represents, in its own way, the history of France. Come and discover it for free during the Heritage Days, the Sunday, September 18, 2022.
This monument, dedicated to great men of the French Republicis housed in a church designed by the architect Jacques Germain Soufflot, a fervent admirer of Greco-Roman architecture. She chooses to build it on a Greek cross plan; and the whole architectural style of the church is imbued with it.
In 1791, thought was given to uniting the tombs of great men of France in a place dedicated to them, like theWestminster Abbey in England, the death of Mirabeau.
Since Pantheon received the remains of great figures of the Republic. In the cryptwe find, among others, the tombs of Rousseauof VoltaireofEmile Zolaof Jean MoulinLouis Braille, René Cassin, Victor Schoelcher, Jean Monnet, Marie Curiethe first woman to enter it and, more recently, Simone Veil.
