A young Australian went viral on TikTok after publishing a video where he can be seen trying to get infected with covid-19 by the way in a Melbourne club. Its objective? She wanted to contract the virus before her wedding so that the disease would not “ruin” the celebration.
“Your wedding is in 6 weeks and you have not had COVID yet (…) Get COVID, not the feelings”, wrote the user, identified as @maddysmart31 on the aforementioned platform.
In the clip, he can be seen hugging various people and even exchanging drinks with strangers. The recording was released just before the state of Victoria announced that, effective January 12, it would close all covered dance floors to the public, except wedding parties, to halt the upturn in the omicron variant.
Quickly, the images became a trend and reached 120 thousand reproductions, before being withdrawn by the social network itself.
The clip generated mixed reactions among those who praised the unorthodox immunization strategy of the future wife and those who criticized it harshly. “Yessss!! The girlfriend of February 5 and I feel this on many levels “said one user. “Sucks to be a healthcare worker watching this”commented another.
An Internet user recalled that you can contract COVID more than once, especially with the infectiousness of the omicron variant.
“We’ve heard many people say ‘(omicron) may be mild’, but it really is terrible, so if you can avoid it, do it”said epidemiologist Catherine Bennett in conversation with Daily Mail. He also emphasized the importance of being vaccinated to reduce the chances of suffering serious symptoms.
Only during this last week, more than 500 thousand new infections were registered in the oceanic country. Some states announced restrictions such as closing nightclubs and discos.
It should be added that the protagonist of the viral video put her account in private mode, after constant criticism.
