Adapted from the work of JK Rowling, the film quickly becomes a huge success in theaters grossing over $ 1 billion at the global box office. Seven films followed: The Chamber of Secrets, The Prisoner of Azkaban, The Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix, The Half-Blood Prince, The Deathly Hallows part 1, and The Deathly Hallows part 2 released in 2011.

Chris Columbus veut sa director’s cut

Director of the first two films, Chris Columbus recently said he wanted his director’s cut of the first Harry Potter film to see the light of day. Indeed, he told The Wrap that a 3h version existed (i.e. 30min more than the theatrical version). It had even been shown to a few lucky ones during the projections tests in the USA. And she had obviously pleased the young audience a lot:

In Chicago we did a 3 hour screening and the parents found it too long. But the kids loved it, and even wanted more.

In this long version, a well-known character from the books was present. Indeed, Peeves, the batting spirit of Hogwarts, appeared on the screen. It is the actor Rik Mayall who interpreted it. In the books, Peeves loves to wreak havoc at Hogwarts and scare the students. But he did play a part in the victory of Harry and his friends during the Battle of Hogwarts.

If for the moment Warner Bros has not communicated on a potential release of this director’s cut, fans could move the lines. Indeed, we still remember the buzz around the Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

The announcement may be made at the reunion scheduled for HBO Max on December 1, 2022.
